Cricket is not currently listed by Apple as a carrier that offers compatible service plans: Apple Watch - Carriers - Apple. I suggest that you contact Cricket to ask about their plans for supporting Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular). You can also monitor the page linked above for further carriers being added over time.
Cricket is owned by AT&T and presumably shares AT&T’s network with all its capabilities. If they’re not offering Apple Watch support, it’s an intentional business decision to motivate higher-end/Apple Watch users to pay for the premium AT&T service.

I get calls/texts and other notifications when my phone is nearby. If the watch is away from the phone it can connect to WiFi. You should be able to store music on the watch for offline playback but i don’t use that feature. Cricket doesn’t offer service for cellular watches at this time.
This watch Is not a gps + cellular. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth or to home wifi. This watch cannot be used as a stand alone device without one of those two options available to it. But as far as i know, cell providers like cricket and metro pcs and straight talk do not support the watches that are gps+ cellular as a stand alone device. I think only major companies like att and verizon have that option for $10.00 more a month added to your cellphone bill.

Well, it appears the currently supported cellular carriers for the Apple Watch are very nearly a united front on the price: at least $10 a month to add your wearable. The one exception is U.S. Cellular, which offers a plan at half the price: $4.99 per month and the first three months are free.
